7:20 – 7:50 The Convention Centre Dublin - the project

The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) - where PMI Global Congress 2011 EMEA is being held - is Ireland's new world-class, purpose-built international conference and event venue. Its iconic status combined with spacious, flexible and elegant conference halls, leading-edge technology and an extensive range of support services is providing an exceptional venue for Irish and International conferences and corporate events.  The CCD is the only carbon neutral convention centre in the world and includes the largest single concrete pour ever undertaken in Ireland.

Ken Moriarty, BSc, CEng, MIEI, MIStructE, Director, O'Connor Sutton Cronin Multidisciplinary Consulting Engineers, has worked with the firm for over 15 years and has a wealth of experience in structural engineering, working on a wide variety of complex structures and deep basements which have included, for example, office developments at Mespil/ Burlington Road and Herbert Street, in addition to the Convention Centre Dublin.  Ken is a Chartered Structural Engineer and is a recipient of the European Concrete Societies Network (ECSN) award for his role in the National Gallery of Ireland Extension in 2004.

Success in any environment largely depends upon completing successful projects, and successful projects get done by skilled project managers and teams, supported by effective project sponsors.  It is the integration across a spectrum of skills that enables certain individuals to make a difference and achieve more optimized outcomes.

The aim of this presentation is to explain to the attendees the importance of developing soft their soft skills during their professional careers. This presentation is based on the upcoming book written by the authors and that will be publish by Management Concepts Editors by automn.

Randall L. Englund, NPDP, CBM, and Alfonso Bucero were both long-term senior project managers at Hewlett- Packard and now head up their respective consultancies Englund Project Management Consultancy and Bucero PM Consulting.
